At Rijstal Le Cheval, we offer private beach rides year-round. This means you or your own group will go on the ride without other customers participating. This means that we can pay more attention to your wishes and riding experience. Explore the dunes, the beach, and the forests of Ameland while receiving one-on-one guidance from an experienced instructor.
Safety is a top priority at Rijstal Le Cheval. Did you know that all of our guides hold a rider’s certificate, and have a certified diploma for guiding trail rides? You can read more about this here!
Both adults and children can participate in private rides at Rijstal Le Cheval. Children from 12 years old, and children from 8 years old with sufficient riding experience, are welcome to join.
Safety is our top priority. That’s why we only offer private rides with beginner riders on a course basis. This means you’ll first take three private lessons, followed by a private ride to the beach. This ride will be entirely at walking pace. More information about our courses can be found on this page.
For safety reasons, we ride beginner and intermediate riders in groups of no more than four people, whereby we send one guide for every two people. For advanced private rides, we offer a maximum of six participants, with one guide for every three people.
Before each ride, you will sign a riding agreement on-site. In this agreement we make clear mutual agreements about how the ride will be organised. Please note: The riding agreement is only available in Dutch and German (not in English); however, you must agree to and sign the Dutch version!
We schedule private rides by appointment between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The best time depends on factors like the tide. Advanced rides preferably take place at low tide.
You have the option to ride for one hour, one and a half hours, or two hours. All our rides go to the beach. Most rides last one and a half hours. With beginners, we then ride through the dunes to the beach. We walk a short distance along the shoreline, and then ride back through the dunes to the stable. With (semi) advanced riders, we ride through the “Ballumer Blinkert” and the Ballumer forest before heading back to the stable.
For advanced riders who want to see more of the island, the 2-hour option is recommended. We then ride towards Nes and return via a beautiful heathland area (the “Hagedoornveld”).
A one-hour ride is ideal for small children or adults with reduced fitness. In this case, you spend relatively less time on the beach.
An up-to-date overview of our rates can be found on the rates page.
To protect the health of our horses, we have a weight limit. This is 90 kg (198 pounds) for advanced riders and 85 kg (187 pounds) for beginners and intermediate riders. There is a scale at Rijstal Le Cheval. If our staff is unsure about the provided weight, they may ask you to weigh yourself before participating in the beach ride.
It is mandatory to wear a riding helm, long (riding) breeches and riding boots or shoes with a smooth sole with heel and smooth upper in combination with chaps. Helmets and chaps can be borrowed from us for free. You can borrow shoes or boots from us if we have the right size available.
Feel free to contact us. Our contact details can be found on our contact page.
