Rijstal Le Cheval on the Wadden Island of Ameland
Our riding stable is a small-scale stable. You will find us in Ballum. This small village is located in the middle of the island of Ameland, on the main road from Nes to Hollum. At our stable we offer beach trail rides for all levels. We also offer a varied range of activities for children, such as renting a walking pony, participating in a pony afternoon or participating in a guided walking pony ride.
Are you an experienced rider and would you like to see more of the island? Then you can book a riding holiday with us. During a riding holiday we ride a different route every day!
On holiday with your own horse to Ameland? That is also possible at Rijstal Le Cheval! We offer various options for stabling and grazing.
A colourful group of horses and ponies
From Groninger horse to Tinker: you will find a colourful group of horses and ponies at our stable. Our largest horse (Charon) has a height of 1.75 metres, while Fee is one of the smaller ponies with a height of 1.10 metres. Fortunately, her feisty character compensates for this. She even dares to go out on her own with the carriage!

Ameland: traditionally a horse island
Although horses are mainly used in the tourist sector these days, they used to be of vital importance to the inhabitants of the island. They were used to work the land, but until 1988 they also helped launch the lifeboat. A monument at the horse grave in Hollum still commemorates the time when this did not end well, when eight horses drowned in the sea.

If you want to be sure of a place in the high season, we recommend that you make a reservation well in advance.
